How our Conveyancing firm started

From the mid 1980's there emerged a number of conveyancing firms in New South Wales. As there was no licensing for such businesses at the time, they were only able to operate legally by outsourcing those parts of the conveyancing process which required a solicitor. This process was fairly cumbersome and led to a push in the late 1980's for conveyancers to be licensed and recognised as a separate profession. This was the case in a number of other States.

The principal and head licensee of East Coast Conveyancing is Adrian Richards. Adrian was heavily involved in lobbying members of State Parliament prior to the introduction of the Conveyancers Licensing Bill in 1992 and was among the first to receive a licence under the new Act. The fact that the 1992 Act and the 1995 Conveyancers Licensing Act received bi-lateral support in Parliament underlines the community's need and acceptance for an alternative to solicitors when transferring title in property.

With the commencement of East Coast Conveyancing in Forster in 1992, Adrian was the first to offer an alternative to solicitors outside the metropolitan areas. East Coast was also the first to offer a "flat fee" for their services outside the metro area.
